Accessing lung lesions in the periphery remains a challenge with bronchoscopy. The innovative GuideSheathKit helps to improve diagnosis of peripheral lung lesions such as solitary pulmonary nodules (SPN).
Once positioned at the target site the guide sheath acts like an extended working channel allowing a safe and repeated access to the lesion for taking biopsies and cytology brushing. The guide sheath is advanced and positioned under x-ray or with ultrasonic guidance at the centre of a solitary pulmonary nodule. In selected cases the Olympus SmoothShot cytology TBNA needles showed also applicability with the minimum 2.6 mm biopsy channel GuideSheathKit.
Olympus offers this unique ready-to-use kit for instrument channels of 2.0 mm and 2.6 mm in diameter or larger. One set includes either a guide sheath and biopsy forceps or a guide sheath, biopsy forceps and cytology brush. The guide sheath technique helps to iincrease diagnostic yield via different sampling methods.
The bending and rotating mechanism of the distal tip enables the guiding device to access the right target segment at difficult bifurcations within the bronchial tree.
